PAALA Scholarship Application
Description of Scholarship Award
This year, the Pennsylvania African American Library Association (PAALA) Scholarship will provide two, non-renewable $500 scholarship awards paid in one installment directly to the recipients. Recipients must begin a program by the Fall semester following the award and provide proof of registration before the award is distributed. Scholarship funds will be forfeited if enrollment is delayed. Recipients are announced at the Pennsylvania African American Library Association (PAALA) Annual Holiday Business Meeting in December.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for a Pennsylvania African American Library Association (PAALA) Scholarship the following criteria must be met:
- Applicant must be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.
- Applicant must be of Black/African/African American descent.
- Applicant must attend an ALA-accredited graduate program in library and information studies or an ALA-recognized NCATE School Library Media program.
- Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited program and begin school no later than the Fall Semester immediately following the award.
- Applicants may have full or part time status.
- Applicants must be or become members of PAALA.
Application Procedures
- A completed application will consist of the application, a personal statement, a resume or CV, and proof of acceptance or registration in an ALA-accredited graduate program in library and information studies or an ALA-recognized NCATE School Library Media program.
- Application instructions can change from year to year as PAALA will continually evaluate our scholarship procedures and process, so make sure you have current information on hand before beginning your application.
- Applications become available in the Fall of the year prior to the scholarship award year. Awards are announced at the PAALA Annual Holiday Business Meeting in December.
- The application deadline this year is December 1, 2009.
